The idea of Facing Forward is that people can progress towards their destiny more quickly if they stop looking behind them. Looking back at past mistakes, hurts and shame while attempting to move forward will slow your progress towards finding fulfillment and true happiness. Therefore, it is imperative that we all Face Forward!
The Apostle Paul said it best in Philippians 3:14b”But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before”.
Facing Forward is a ministry that began in 2009 by Founder Dee Johnson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker from Houston, TX. Dee was director for several not for profit organizations over a 10 yr period where she developed a passion for helping people. While working as Executive Director for a homeless shelter, Dee frequently encountered women who were battling feelings of shame, guilt, issues related to abuse, abandonment, substance dependence, mental illness and poverty. Dee found that there was a commonality between all of these clients-they didn’t see themselves through the eyes of God, their creator. Consequently, they did not see themselves as valuable. They thought and felt that they were unworthy of the love of God because of their shameful past. They thought that God’s love and acceptance of them was based on performance instead of grace.
People seem to believe that because of their imperfections and many, sometimes shameful mistakes, that they are no longer loveable or valuable.
Facing Forward's vision, as given by God, is to help people develop a relationship with God and help them understand that there is nothing they can do to make Him stop loving them.
Facing Forward plans to accomplish this mission by continuing to use whatever forum available….speaking at conferences, shelters, bible study class, personal development classes and/or through curriculum development, etc.
Dee and her family, husband Earnest and 2 sons, Jonathan and Jason, with the assistance of family, friends and local elementary schools, have also started The Family Assistance Project, assisting needy families with food, clothing and school supplies..
Dee received a B.A. in Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin and a Masters in Social Work from The University of Houston. She is a former councilmember on The Children’s Policy Council for the State of Texas. Mrs. Johnson works as a Therapist for people struggling with mental illness and substance abuse issues. She also volunteers her time at local shelters teaching people the truth about their value to God
